Welcome to Year 5/6!

We are really looking forward to the exciting and challenging year ahead.  We have many interesting and educational activities planned for the next year.

This term Year 6 will be going on a trip to Dangerpoint to learn how to stay safe in a variety of situations. This trip will be on the 14th September.  A letter will be issued shortly. This year will begin with the topic ‘Frozen Kingdom’ where children will be learning about

PE-kits will need to be in school for Silver Birch and Elm classes on Tuesdays and Pine on a Friday.  This half term, Silver Birch will be swimming on a Thursday.

Homework will be sent home on a Friday and should be completed and returned to the class teacher by the following Wednesday.  Any child who struggles with their homework should bring it back to school before the Wednesday so that the class teacher can set some time aside to support that child.  Failure to return the homework on time will result in a loss of Dojo points!! Reading books will also be sent home daily and a reading record will be provided for parents/carers to write comments about your child’s reading.

Classroom resources will be provided for each child, this year it will be their responsibility to look after their own personal equipment (each has been labelled with your child’s name). We hope that this system will work as we are forever handing out new resources at an astronomical cost to the school.  Should these resources run out we will of course replace them but if they are lost through lack of care then the child will need to supply their own.

We would like each pupil to bring into school a bottle of fresh water daily which they will be able to have at their desks to keep them hydrated. This is tap water not flavoured water. Please label your child’s bottle. The cost of school tuck is £1 each week payable on a  Monday. Should your child wish to bring in their own snack, we would like to encourage healthy options such as fruit and vegetables.

Should you wish to discuss any matters with any of the Year 5/6 team then we have an open door policy and welcome your visits and you are welcome to pop in and see your child’s teacher between 8:50 and 9:00. If this is not convenient, please phone to make an alternative appointment. Here’s to a great year ahead!!

Thank you for your continued support.
